How to Get the Most Out of Your Reading, Part 3

Step 3: Get the Reading!

So, you have found a good reader, and you have formulated a good question. Now comes the fun part: Getting the reading! Now, you may think that this is the simple part. I mean, you go in, you sit down and the reader tells you what the oracle says, right? Well, yes… And no. There are still things that you need to do to get a good reading. Let’s take a look at what they are.

First, you need to be in the right frame of mind. You need to be open to receiving a good reading. Nothing will kill the energy in a reading quicker than your doubt or presumption that it is going to be bad. Remember, the cards (or whatever oracle is being used) is going to be connecting to and referencing your energy. If you are putting out doubt or negative thoughts about the reading or the outcome, that is what it is going to pick up on. Of course, having an expectation of a positive outcome will do the same thing. So, how should you be focused for the reading? You should go in with the expectation that you are going to get a clear message. Nothing more. Do not expect a good or bad outcome. Just expect an outcome. There will be plenty of time to worry about good or bad later.

Next, you need to be able to focus on the question that you have formulated. We all have lives, and we all have things that are happening in them. Many of us are busy with work, family, hobbies or other things. But your reading is the time to set all of that aside, at least for a few minutes. If your thoughts are scattered your reading probably will be as well. The reader is focusing solely on you, and you need to do the same for your question. As the reader aligns with your energy and the cards are guided by you, you need to let only one thought into your mind: the question you have come to have answered. This should be fairly easy if you have put in the time and effort to formulate a good question described in step 2. You mind should readily focus on it and you should be able to keep that focus through at least the first part of the reading when the cards are shuffled and cut (or the oracle is prepared) and the initial interpretation is done.

Once the reading has begone and the reader has begun his or her interpretation of the symbolism, signs and meanings, the next thing that you need to do is to pay attention. Don’t try to interpret or apply the reading to your life yet. Just listen. Take notes if you like. In fact, that would probably be a good for the final step. Take in all the information in that you can. Be focused and attentive. Once the reader has provided you with all the information they can see in the oracle, then start to think about how the reading can apply to your situation or question. If you approach the reading in this manner it will help to ensure that you get the entire message about the reading and don’t get stuck on just one part or aspect of it.

Finally, you should ask questions. Consulting an oracle is a spectator sport! As you interact with the reader, asking questions and seeking further clarification, it helps the reader to connect better to the root of your question and helps them to interpret and apply what the oracle is saying to present a more complete picture or answer. The reader and the person having the reading done should work together to interpret the oracle. After all, no one knows what is going on in your life better than you do. Get all of the information you can from the reading and the reader. It will become very important as we move into step four.
